This post was meant for last week, but for some reason our Santa wrapping didn't begin until 12:30 a.m. on Christmas Eve. Actually that is the norm and I'll tell you why. I don't like to wrap Santa presents right up until the last moment because I am terrified the pip squeaks are going to find them. Why don't I just play them off as presents from us? Here's why. My first tip to making Christmas a little more special for my kids: Santa specific wrapping paper. I have told Jack that the true way to know if a present is from Santa is all the paper. If Santa is on the paper in anyway, you will know it is from him. This year we also added little tags. But the number one way we try to make the experience as "real" as possible is by what is under the paper. Every Santa gift has been taken out of the manufacturers packaging and wrapped as is or in boxes. No fussing with batteries and those pesky zip tied down toys Christmas morning. All Jack wanted for Christmas was the four die-cast World Grand Prix cars from Cars 2 that he didn't already own. Unfortunately we could only get three (that Rip Clutchgoneski is quite the collectors item to the tune of around $50). We take them out of the packaging and put them in individual little boxes.
This may mean more to me than them, we will never know. But what I do know, is that my son is smart, too smart. And is asking more and more questions every year. So if this is what I have to do to make him stay little and believe, it is what I will do.
