Swing Set Days
I don't know why, but I am a little sentimental today. Rocking Millie snug in my arms tonight made me feel a little emotional. I didn't cry into her blankie and wipe my snot on her monkey jammies, but I had one of those, "It won't be like this for long moments." Those moments when I hear Chris's low voice through the wall telling Jack his bedtime story. A story that has to be pretends, have a race car or a treasure hunt or a pirate in it, but not a really bad pirate, just a silly pirate.
Tonight we took Jack and Mills to The Lion King. During the movie Jack whispered so proudly,"I'm not even getting scared at the scary parts mom!"That is huge for him. Four is definitely his year of growing his confidence, it's awesome to watch.
I also went and sat in on his class today (because I am one of those moms). I arrived during free time with Koo-Koo the fish in tow for show and tell. He and his friends were crashing Little Tyke cars into each other. And I just thought of how great he is doing and wonder why I have to worry so much. I have a whole other post in the works on forging new relationships with your son's new friends parents. It wasn't awkward at all. It's like asking someone out on a date! You've got the sweaty armpits. Will they think I am too forward? Or a freakin' wacko? Do I touch her shoulder? No creep! Do not touch her. Okay, I will walk her to her car. Don't do that either Crazy! There is a whole lot that goes into the chapter of school years. It's a big, big chapter.
I am definitely one of those people who struggle with this time of year. School starting, the change in the weather, the angle of the sun, it all adds up to CHANGE. I like to say I like change, but who am I kidding! Chris and I are the king and queen of indecisiveness. And indecisiveness equals scaredy pants of change. I just wish these dog days of summer would hang around awhile so we can have a few more swing set days out back.
