Yay, an update on a home project. That never happens. Five years after our master remodel and we still have no closet doors on Chris's closet, big whoop. It would actually take a lot of getting used to if we ever install them.
Here are some old pics of what the room kind of used to look like:
*BIG Note: The lighting in this room is awful. No natural light. Boob lights. Lots of yellow. So bad. But in a basement with low ceilings there are few options.
And below is the now. The room definitely isn't complete, but it is so much more lovely! It feels so much more open with the monstrosities of a desk and chair gone. It was a great desk, just too big for the room. And because we decided (at least for this week) to stay in this house, we need to maximize every inch. We just can't bring ourselves to leave this place!
Our first step to get here was to sell the desk. We sold it two days after listing it on KSL. It had a couple small dings, but was in great shape. We sold it for 180 bucks. IKEA and 180 smackers? We can spend that up real quick!
The desk was actually more than I thought it would be. I figured it would be around $120ish, but it was more around $160. The shelves were around $45. The chair is also IKEA, but not on the site. It was $10 and a temporary fix for now. The magnet board was $10. I am finding that in-store prices can be different than the internet. I'm sure they are pushing out inventory at the stores.
We got the new sconce at Lowe's for $20. It was a little difficult finding a sconce with a pull chain that either was too expensive or too gaudy. I like this one, but don't love the shade. It is growing on me though. We tried installing "natural light" bulbs to rid the yellow. Can't tell from these photos, but it is better. We have almost turned our whole house over to energy efficient bulbs. Lemme tell ya, you sacrifice a little with these when you have an older home like ours. One day I will have house full of beautiful light, but for now that will remain upstairs. Mama and Papa are not adding a additional breaker for that. Oh, and that dandy picture on the bottom shelf you noticed? It is Chris and I at senior prom. Found that bad boy when we cleaned this room out. Find!!!
We moved the table and chairs out of Jack's room to make more space and also in anticipation of moving Millie in there later this year, hopefully. I am finally using this room how I envisioned months ago! I work or color or sort mail, all while the kids are drawing or coloring right here with me.
I have wanted this for awhile. Now I am wishing we did a longer wire! For $10 bucks it is the best way to display the kids' art and I can see my fridge again!
We still have more planned for this room. Not much, just a couple things. New doors when we do the kitchen or I am still tossing around the idea of curtains. A few other things to hang, a way to organize the cords and desk items, and that's about it. You can see we lost some storage when we gave the old desk the heave-ho. We purged and re-organized, but still need a few other solutions. And fingers crossed, I will get a lesson from my girlyfriend, Cathy, on how to make my camera take well-lit photographs for the next update. And maybe there will be a few less dashes in the next post. Does anyone else feel I used them a bit ex-cess-iv-ely?

I really like the room re-do! It really looks great.... I love how it's all the same color scheme now.
I laughed out loud at the "boob lights" - I have never heard them called that, but knew exactly what you were talking about! (We've got one in our bathroom.)
Most definitely!! Love it all!
