Lacrosse Cake

Disclaimer: Forgive me for the bad, really bad, photos taken in the back of my car. Someday I will get more professional and fancy!

I had a day to put this cake together. Despite that, I think it turned out great. My nephew is a lacrosse-lovin' boy so I told him I would whip up a cake for his birthday. His favorite team is Syracuse, hence the colors orange and white. He turned ten. And is obviously number nine. Happy day K-Boy!

A few things that I need to work on are:

  1. Using gum paste. It defeated me when it came to doing the nets on the goals. HARD! At least the netting on the stick turned out.
  2. My timing. Chris points out that I cram too much in to too little of time. I know he is right                       (damn him!), but in my defense I only have so many kid-free hours a day. I wish I could have finished the outside lines and netting.
  3. Perfecting intricate details. As you can CLEARLY see, I had orange food coloring bleed onto the white face mask on the helmet. I am a perfectionist when it comes to crafty and cakey things. I know I can do these things well, it all comes back to my Number Two problem. The number two above, not that number two, ya sickies! All is well on that front. I just need to map out my time a little better. Most cakes I finish with ease, others I am up to the wee hours and I'm not sure how I will fix that!
