Mahalo Kauai

Let's preface this little trip overview that this was a SHUPE vacation. Which means that do not be surprised by the little hiccups along our vaca to the Garden Island. These types of occurrences are NORMAL for us and we rarely go into panic mode anymore when things don't go according to the plan. So hopefully I will make this short and painless, but some pictures need a little explanation.
Everyone's first question was how was the flight? Kids on a six hour flight, yikies! But no, the kids did fabulous. Great on the way over and slept on both flights the way home. I on the other hand, broke out in hives about two hours away from Kauai. Not too itchy, but it was just there, ya know.
I was sick before we left and begged the doc for a Zpak to clear up any bronchitis that was still lingering. Zpak plus beautiful surroundings would knock out any sort of mucus, right? Well, not so much. My brother-in-law and I still had these coughs that I'm pretty sure got annoying real fast. He did way better than I did at concealing his. I felt great despite that, so it didn't damper my mood much. I was in Kauai my favorite place ever, nothing could bring me down!
Maybe the constant rain on days four and five that overflowed the pool? Nope. We swam our little hearts out in that rain and it made for an AMAZING helicopter ride on day six. Waterfalls ga-lour. The big long one is the one from Jurassic Park.
We took advantage of a little blue book that sent us in directions other travelers weren't headed. Kipu Falls was a great find. Locals go there to jump and swim and we were lucky enough to be there when one was there with his dog to scuba dive for treasures in the bottom. Chris and Jord got to jump off and rope swing in. Unfortunately for Stace and I by the time we got a turn Jack's eye was swelling shut from mosquito bites. Next time! And next time mosquito repellent.
Day eight brought the sun back and food poisoning for Millie. Poor thing hucked up her hot dog lunch all over the car seat, a parking lot, and her mother. Jordan and Stacey will be putting off having kids a little longer. Thank goodness the bathrooms at this particular place were unlocked so she could have a nice cool scrub down in the sink with hand soap. That brought an end to Chris and I extending our stay for three more days.
A few other tidbits were Chris wanting to get his OWN coconut. Which he did as you will see. It only took Jack five days to head down the slide alone. Took Millie about one slide and she was hooked. The hotel was great. I think one of Jack's favorite parts was feeding the fish every morning. And we also searched out the best shave ice we could find. Jo Jo's was my personal favorite. That vanilla cream on top did it for me!
We will see you soon, Kauai. Hopefully it won't take us three years to get back again. Maybe next time you will have less construction and a little less rain.
